As Aidan John Moffat (ex-Arab Strap) remarkably expressed in recent tweets regarding U2's announcement at the last Apple conference :
In case you didn't know, U2's latest album will be available for free on iTunes until its actual physical release.
Of course many medias were stupid enough to believe it was an incredibly innovative marketing operation. We've even read somewhere that it was generous! WTF?!
Did they know that many bands have already been giving out their records for free on services like Bandcamp? And they have been doing this for ages now!
In the end, independent labels like ours will probably seem greedy because we are still trying to SELL music!
We at Cheap Satanism have always tried to be cool when it comes to pricing.
Since the beginning you can listen to most of our records for free on SoundCloud and on streaming services like Spotify... Well, platforms like Spotify actually earn us some bucks, but please keep in mind that it wouldn't even cover our yearly toilet paper budget. However we never make any of our records available for free because we definitely think that music is a worthy product: musicians and labels deserve to be paid!
So when we hear that Apple, not being satisfied with U2 simply giving their last album out for free, force their customers to download it, we're really pissed off!
I hope someone big enough will sue Apple for unfair competition.
In the meantime we do not intend to stand idly by: we must let people download our music instead of U2's crap!
So for the first time ever, almost all of our records will be available for download at the price you want on our Bandcamp page.
At least as long as U2's latest album is on iTunes for free.
If you're an iTunes user, we would be very pleased if you deleted the automatically downloaded U2 album and replaced it by some of our tunes. Also, we would be really grateful if you send us screenshots of it!
