The Brussels-based, self-proclaimed satanic pop duo KEIKI is back with its third album, "Popcorn from the Grave". Darker and more incisive than previous recordings, it offers 12 short and to the point tracks. This will be the band’s first full-length release on vinyl.

"Popcorn from the Grave" exudes raw indie rock and explores the territories of angry post-punk and fuzz-drenched metal. When the pace slows down, it also sometimes leans towards haunted rock. Their vocalist's unique voice is supported by sharp guitars, an old school drum machine programmed in step mode only and the supernatural sounds of a theremin.

The band has broadened the range of its sounds by adding bass on some tracks. Death and madness are prevailing themes, yet Keiki never loses its bitter-sweet touch and the dark sense of humor that has become the duo’s trademark. "Pies & Popcorn", for instance, tells us about the delicious dishes which are prepared beyond the grave (LINDA MCCARTNEY and PAUL NEWMAN, who passed away long ago, still sell a wide range of foods in supermarkets worldwide). "Stab You" succeeds in combining words from both "Emmanuelle 4" and "The Simpsons". In "Hiroshima-Nagasaki" we learn that, as experienced by Japanese businessman TSUTOMU YAMAGUCHI, it is possible to survive two atomic bombings.

For the first time, two guest vocalists are featured: PETE SIMONELLI from ENABLERS on "Full Body Wolf" and EUGENE ROBINSON from OXBOW on "The Killing Cure".

Le duo bruxellois KEIKI, maître auto-proclamé de la satanic pop, nous revient avec son troisième album intitulé "Popcorn from the Grave". Plus sombre et mordant que ses prédécesseurs, cet album d’une trentaine de minutes bénéficie d’une sortie vinyle et enchaîne douze titres généralement courts qui vont droit au but d’un rock indie griffu.

"Popcorn from the Grave" explore les contrées du post-punk énervé, voire du metal gorgé de fuzz mais nous amène aussi vers des morceaux plus lents et entêtants – "haunted-rock" diront certains. La voix unique de leur chanteuse est portée par des guitares rêches et tranchantes, une boîte à rythme old school programmée uniquement en mode 'step' et les sons irréels d’un theremin.

La mort et la folie rodent dans les textes de cet album… sans perdre de cet humour noir et doux-amer qui caractérise bien la démarche un peu tordue de keiki. Par exemple, "Pies & Popcorn" nous parle de ces bons petits plats venant tout droit d’outre-tombe (LINDA MC CARTNEY et PAUL NEWMAN, morts depuis longtemps, ont toujours chacun une gamme de produits alimentaires en supermarché). "Stab you" parvient à entremêler de manière cohérente des dialogues provenant et d’"Emmanuelle 4" et des "Simpsons". Hiroshima-Nagasaki quant à lui nous apprend que, tel TSUTOMU YAMAGUCHI, il est parfaitement possible de survivre à deux attaques nucléaires.
