Hassan K. - Gharbzadeh
€16.66
HASSAN K. is the solo project of Franco-Iranian artist KEYVANE ALINAGHI. A sound artist and DIY tinkerer, hacker using free software. On stage, he performs a unique and extreme live experience, bordering on trance. He crafts and repurposes traditional instruments (a microtonal guitar enhanced with sensors, a robotic santoor, an electric zurna) to get as close as possible to the audience and create compositions at the intersection of mystical Persian rituals and contemporary music. Bollywoodcore, oriental surf music, hindustrial techno... a blend of swing, cyber-metal, electronica, harsh noise, and rock in opposition, amplified by the sounds of Iranian spiritual knighthood.
"Gharbzadeh" follows in the chronological tradition of Hassan K.'s previous LPs. It draws on pre-modern Iran, centered on the Qajar dynasty- six rulers who reigned from the late 18th century to the first quarter of the 20th century, and who opened the kingdom to Western influence despite the expansionist ambitions of Russia and the British Empire. This rupture in the crossroads nation of Eurasia fostered a phenomenon of "westernization" (which translates into Gharbzadeh), a term theorized by Iranian writer and critic JALAL AL-E-AHMAD, to describe the evils that were imposed and altered Iran’s cultural habits. This phenomenon is recounted through 12 tracks that explore the transformations of the Iranian landscape, drugs culture, and imperialist violence.
A Bollywood-core album that blends surf rock, traditional rhythms, math rock, metal, and electro, featuring several prestigious guest artists: SARA FONTAN (LOS SARA FONTAN), CHARLES KIENY (CKRAFT), TESLA MANAF (KUNTARI), and MASTO (LUCRATE MILK, BÉRURIER NOIR).
